Want To Be A Good Leader? Go Home !

As an executive coach, I get easy alignment from senior leaders about too many people complaining about having to take work home.  However, the look on their faces totally changes when I then mention that too many of their team are also bringing home to work.  The research on the necessity of the  appropriate work-life integration is compelling for performance.  This Forbes post is spot on:

“When Todd McKinnon left his high-paying job at Salesforce to co-found Okta, a cloud security company, he made a promise to his wife: that he would be home for dinner every night.

Since Okta’s founding in 2009, McKinnon has kept his promise. At the same time, his company has grown to more than 2,000 employees in six countries, and its share price has risen from $17 to $129, an increase of 660%. Reflecting upon his journey, McKinnon told CNN Business that leaving work by 7 p.m. “helped make him a better CEO.”
