Christians are not immune to the temptations of falling into an inappropriate relationship that can destroy their testimony and marriage. In my coaching over the years, the pattern of having an emotional affair long before a physical one is highly consistent. Upstream of that is a slow but clear loss of spiritual oneness with the Father that creates an open door for disaster. This post by Dave Willis is a must read:
“An affair isn’t always just physical; you might be in danger of having an emotional affair if any of these signs are true.
1. You’re having conversations you wouldn’t want your spouse to see.If you’re ever in a position where you think, “I’m glad my husband/wife isn’t seeing this,” then you’re already out of bounds and you’re playing with fire. A healthy marriage requires complete trust and transparency. Don’t STOP flirting with your spouse and don’t START flirting with anybody else.”
